Yorkshire Property Market Recovering

YORKSHIRE'S property market is showing signs of recovery, it was claimed.

Estate agent Dacre Son & Hartley says it has seen a distinct improvement in the region's property market over the first four weeks of 2009, compared with the final quarter of 2008.

Ilkley-based Dacres has also seen an increase in the number of offers being made and what it describes as a "healthy" rise in the number of properties sold during January this year compared with January, 2008.

Gazumping 'returns to London property market'

Estate agents have claimed that would-be buyers are again entering into last-minute bidding wars to secure properties as house prices rose for the first time in 11 months in January.

Charles Peerless, the manager of London's West End and City branches of agents Winkworths, said: "We've had gazumping on two lower priced properties – around the £360,000 mark – in January.

"We had abuse from the buyers because they think the market is dreadful and they couldn't believe they had been outbid," he told The Guardian.

Ed Mead, the director of the London estate agents Douglas & Gordon, told the newspaper his company's Wandsworth branch had seen one buyer attempt to gazump a rival by £50,000.
