There is plenty of data that allows you to research house price data in your area. Using this data it is possible to realistically price a property to buy or sell.

The following websites provide some of the best house price data:

Nationwide Building Society provide a full set of Microsoft Exel historical house price data, using this all sorts of charts and graphs can be created.

Nationwide Building Society have a tool which allows you to find out how much the value of a property has changed over a period of time. This tool can be found here



Halifax Bank of Scotland provides the longest unbroken monthly data series of any UK housing index which goes back to 1984. The data is available here



The Land Registry provide house price data that may be more accurate than the Halifax or Nationwide data as it is based on completed sales. Unfortunately the data still does not include houses that have been sold at auction and repossesions. The data set can be found here.

The website mouseprice allows you to get a valuation of your home based on historical data for your area, land registry sold prices and property for sale.

Find the previous prices of houses in the area that you live, or the area where you are moving to.

The website rightmove.co.uk is the biggest online property portal in the UK. rightmove also provide a tool that allows you to see the prices that homes previously sold with data from the Land Registry and the Registry of Scotland

property-bee.com allows property buyers to track changes to property listings that appear on rightmove. It is a plugin for the Firefox browser.

Nethouseprices allows you to see previous prices that houses have been sold for using data provided by the Land Registry and the Registry of Scotland.

Find the value of houses that have sold in your area.

Using PropertyChimp which is an installable script for greasemonkey that runs on Firefox it allows you to view previous price information on properties listed on www.houseprices.co.uk. The prices are shown in an extra column with the price and the percentage of increase or decrease since the previous sales.
